The Sphinx had been sent
To the kingdom of Thebes, to curse
With lion body, dragon wings
A woman's face and breasts
Frightening monster
in the altar of madness watches
The pathway to Thebes, testing all grieved souls
The riddle they request
the one that mortals must divine
And should they fail
she would lift and quarter them
The royal animal, with claws seizes her victims
Pulling them up to their feet, the mutilated bodies
The stench of death infects the deceivers
A burning slaughter she desires, with no regrets
Oedipus got it right
The riddle was unveiled, Oedipus was to blame
The sphinx committed suicide
off the cliffs she threw herself.
