The Groceries started as "Gandhi in Vegas" with Matthew Brownlie on guitar and vocals, Erik Bogle on bass, Eric Tes on guitar, and Lisa Harrington-Squires on drums. Soon after the start, the line up was changed as Erik switched to guitar, Thomas Clemmons joined on drums, and Blake Powell on bass. It was after this change that they took the name "Groceries."
